The anticipation surrounding Cooper Kupp’s anticipated return to the field this Thursday has been overshadowed by reports of the Los Angeles Rams considering trading their standout receiver. Kupp, 31, has played a crucial role in head coach Sean McVay’s offense for over seven years, but it was revealed on Tuesday that the Rams have been reaching out to other teams, looking for a second-round pick in return for the 2021 Offensive Player of the Year.
Following the Rams’ practice, Kupp addressed the media regarding the trade speculation as the Nov. 5 deadline approaches. Demonstrating his commitment to the team, Kupp remains focused on contributing to the Rams’ success.
“Yeah, I’m aware of it but at the end of the day, I’m going to be where my feet are,” he stated. “That’s all I know. I have a job to do here and I take a lot of pride in giving everything I can for the guys in this building and being able to step on the field knowing that I’ve prepared the best that I can. For seven and a half years, I’ve been an L.A. Ram and I’ve taken that approach every single day. Whatever happens outside of that, I have to control what I can control. Right now, that means being the best L.A. Ram that I can be and I’m going to do that.”
The speculation regarding Kupp’s potential trade has developed rapidly, shifting from the Rams receiving inquiries to actively reaching out to other teams. It remains uncertain whether Kupp will indeed be traded, but with the team currently at 2-4, it’s evident the Rams are contemplating significant moves involving their star receiver.
When asked about any conversations with the Rams concerning the trade rumors, Kupp indicated that communication on that matter has been minimal.
“Nothing really, no,” he replied. “It is that time of the year. There’s going to be rumors and things that go around. I let that stuff, as much as I can, be in the background and just kind of handle my business.”
With the trade deadline just three weeks away, the Rams have only two games before they must decide Kupp’s future. Should they lose both upcoming matchups against the Vikings and Seahawks, they would fall to 2-6, making it more appealing to trade assets. Conversely, if they secure victories in those games, they could find themselves competitive in the NFC West, potentially even leading the division depending on other results.
