Kraken Strengthen Roster with Marchment Trade: What’s Next?

The Seattle Kraken have bolstered their roster by acquiring forward Mason Marchment from the Dallas Stars, finalizing the deal on Thursday. In exchange, the Kraken will send a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a third-round pick in 2026 to Dallas.

Marchment, who stands tall at 6-foot-5, had a productive season last year, achieving 22 goals and a total of 47 points over 62 regular-season games with the Stars. He continued to contribute during the playoffs, scoring one goal and adding four assists in 18 games despite the Stars’ ultimate elimination by the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final.

Entering the last year of his four-year, $18 million contract, which carries an annual cap hit of $4.5 million, Marchment has made quite an impact since beginning his NHL career. Originally an undrafted free agent signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2018, he has tallied 76 goals and 189 points across 302 regular-season games, playing for the Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, and Dallas Stars.

His playoff performance has been noteworthy as well, contributing to Dallas’s success in reaching the Western Conference Final in each of his three seasons with the team, with eight goals and 16 points in 49 playoff games. The 2023-24 season marked his peak offensive output yet, where he recorded 22 goals and 53 points over 81 games.

This acquisition signals the Kraken’s commitment to strengthening their lineup as they aim for a deeper playoff run. Marchment’s experience and proven scoring ability should add depth to the team’s forward group, offering hope for a successful season ahead.
