Wendy’s is commemorating the 25th anniversary of “SpongeBob SquarePants” with the launch of a special Krabby Patty meal. The fast-food chain will introduce the “Krabby Patty Kollab” cheeseburger and a “Pineapple Under the Sea” Frosty flavor. This promotion will be available at Wendy’s locations in the US and Canada, starting October 8.

The Krabby Patty offers a twist on the classic cheeseburger, featuring an extra slice of cheese and a “top-secret” Krabby Kollab sauce, as announced on Wednesday. The new Frosty is a vanilla base with a swirl of pineapple and mango puree.

This collaboration aims to tap into nostalgia among millennials, potentially boosting sales. In a similar vein, Burger King recently announced a partnership with MGM’s “The Addams Family” animated franchise, introducing a “Wednesday’s Whopper” with a purple bun.

Wendy’s highlighted the synergy between their square burgers and the iconic characters from “SpongeBob SquarePants,” suggesting that the partnership makes perfect sense. The simplicity of using existing menu items for the specials allows for efficient assembly by staff. Other chains, such as McDonald’s, have found success in releasing celebrity-themed meals that use familiar items under new names.

The fast-food industry is currently vying for consumer spending as diners are eating out less frequently and reducing their spending when they do. In response, companies are implementing value meals and special promotions to drive sales. The effectiveness of these strategies will be evaluated in the upcoming earnings reports.
