Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for its highly anticipated animated feature film, KPop: Demon Hunters, set to premiere on June 20. This innovative 3D CG movie is a collaborative effort from Sony Pictures Animation, featuring an original narrative by Maggie Kang, renowned for her work as head of story on The LEGO Ninjago Movie. The film is directed by Kang alongside Chris Appelhans, who co-directed Wish Dragon.
The storyline follows Kpop superstars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, who, when not captivating audiences in sold-out stadiums, transform into formidable demon hunters. With their unique skills, they are tasked with safeguarding their fans from supernatural menaces. Their latest challenge comes in the form of a rival boy band that consists of demons in disguise, presenting an intense battle ahead.
The voice cast includes notable talents like Arden Cho as Rumi, May Hong as Mira, and Ji-young Yoo as Zoey. Ahn Hyo-seop voices Jinu, the lead of the rival boy band, while the ensemble features Yunjin Kim, Joel Kim Booster, Liza Koshy, as well as well-known actors Daniel Dae Kim and Ken Jeong.
KPop: Demon Hunters is produced by Michelle L.M. Wong, with Scott Berri and Jacky Priddle serving as co-producers. Ian Eisendrath is the executive music producer, enhancing the film’s vibrant atmosphere. The musical score is crafted by Marcelo Zarvos and includes original songs by a mix of talented artists such as Teddy Park and Jenna Andrews, performed by various artists including EJAE and members of the popular Kpop group TWICE.
