Netflix’s “Kpop Demon Hunters Sing-along” is set to saunter back into theaters from October 31 to November 2, promising an exciting Halloween treat for fans. This follow-up engagement arrives on the heels of its successful initial release over August 22-25, where it debuted at No. 1 with a remarkable $19 million, despite not being part of the AMC Theatres line-up and exclusively shown in Regal, Cinemark, and other cinema chains.
This time around, “Kpop Demon Hunters” will expand its reach by being showcased in approximately 400 AMC theaters across the globe, complementing its existing presence in Regal and Cinemark locations. The film will be seen in various international markets, including the UK, Ireland, South Korea, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand.
A spokesperson for AMC Theatres shared insights on this new partnership, stating, “Netflix, the world’s largest streaming service, and AMC Entertainment, the world’s largest theatre chain, have jointly decided to work together.” This collaboration marks a significant change, as Netflix and AMC have previously been at odds regarding film windowing strategies, notably illustrated by the absence of a wide theatrical release for Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman.” However, there was a successful limited release for Netflix’s “Knives Out: Glass Onion” by AMC during Thanksgiving 2022.
The return of “Kpop Demon Hunters” coincides with a relatively quiet Halloween weekend for major film releases. Focus Features is set to release Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia” featuring Emma Stone, while Fathom will re-release the “Twilight Saga.”
“Kpop Demon Hunters,” produced by Sony Animation, has shattered viewing records on Netflix, amassing over 541.8 million global hours viewed, making it the platform’s most-watched title. The film, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, follows Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), young pop stars who are also demon hunters. They battle against their biggest demonic rival (played by Lee Byung-hun), who seeks to create a rival K-pop boy band to enchant their fans.
As an added note of enthusiasm for fans, a sequel to “Kpop Demon Hunters” is already in development, indicating that the thrilling adventures of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey are far from over. This collaboration between Netflix and AMC not only revives interest in the film but may pave the way for more joint ventures in the future, enriching the cinematic landscape for audiences worldwide.
