MODEL Towns Charitable Trust’s general manager, Paul Forrest, has raised concerns about the social challenges faced by families in the Koroipita community, emphasizing the need for greater male responsibility and stability within households. Koroipita, situated near Lautoka City, accommodates a significant number of vulnerable families, including 57 single parents. Many of these residents have sought refuge at Model Town, escaping challenging past circumstances.

“We currently have 57 single parents in the community, and some have come from situations of domestic violence,” Mr. Forrest remarked. He highlighted distressing cases where fathers have abandoned their families to live selfishly.

While acknowledging the critical role of social movements focusing on women’s rights, Mr. Forrest believes that addressing the conduct and responsibilities of men is vital for family welfare. He pointed out the need for initiatives that train men to fulfill their domestic roles, providing support and serving as positive role models for their partners and children.

“A shift in male responsibility would create a stronger foundation for mothers at home,” Mr. Forrest stated. “This, in turn, would empower women to embrace their roles as mothers, enabling them to invest more time in nurturing children with strong values and morals.”

By focusing on these issues, there is hope for a more supportive environment in Koroipita, where families can thrive and each member can contribute to a brighter future. With dedicated efforts and community support, a positive transformation is achievable.
