The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways in Fiji has announced the receipt of $1 million worth of agricultural machinery donated by the Government of the Republic of Korea, marking a significant advancement for the country’s livestock sector. Agriculture Minister Tomasi Tunabuna emphasized that this equipment will assist farmers in addressing feed shortages exacerbated by climate change and natural disasters, facilitating improved silage production and better feed storage.

The donated machinery, which includes tractors, harvesters, and balers, is expected to modernize pasture management practices, enhance livestock productivity, and decrease dependence on imported feed. Minister Tunabuna expressed his gratitude to the Korean Government for their support, highlighting that this collaboration will bolster food security and enhance the livelihoods of rural farmers.

Acting Korean Ambassador Myongjun Kim reiterated Korea’s commitment to continue working alongside Fiji to advance agricultural development in the region. The Ministry plans to implement the use of this equipment through farmer training and extension programs across the nation, enabling local farmers to fully leverage the benefits of these advancements.

This initiative showcases the power of international cooperation and commitment to sustainable agricultural practices, promising positive changes for Fiji’s agricultural landscape and rural communities.
