KORE Broadcasting, based in Eugene, has made a significant change to its station programming, transitioning from Classic Country to a focus on Sports Talk as KNCU rebrands as FOX Sports Newport. This shift follows KORE’s acquisition of the station from former owner Dave Miller.
Listeners can now enjoy a mix of both syndicated FOX Sports content, which includes popular shows like The Dan Patrick Show and The Herd with Colin Cowherd, as well as local programming. This local segment features the daily show hosted by Danny and Justin, high school sports coverage through Friday Night Live during the football season, and GameDay Pre & Post Game Shows on select Saturdays for college football. Additionally, FOX Sports Newport will feature live play-by-play coverage of the Oregon Ducks football and men’s basketball teams, LA Chargers football games, and select NCAA men’s basketball tournament matchups.
Steve Woodward, the Station Manager at FOX Sports Newport, expressed enthusiasm about the new programming, stating, “We’re excited to bring high-quality sports radio to the Oregon Coast. KNCU has one of the strongest sports lineups in the entire state.”
This transformation represents a commitment to enhancing sports coverage in the region and aligns with a growing trend of localized sports talk radio, which often fosters community engagement and brings fans closer to their favorite teams.
Overall, this shift not only elevates the listening experience for sports fans along the Oregon Coast but also highlights the increasing popularity of sports media in local markets.
