Koli Sewabu has officially stepped into the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Rugby Union, and he is determined to implement essential reforms to enhance the organisation’s operations. One of Sewabu’s immediate goals is to restructure Rugby House to foster greater efficiency and professionalism.
Acknowledging the need for improved systems off the field, Sewabu emphasized the importance of elevating performance on the pitch as well. He pointed out that a previous strategic plan was never formally endorsed, prompting the initiation of a new 10-year strategic plan currently awaiting board approval.
Once sanctioned, this strategic plan is expected to usher in significant changes throughout management, governance, and operations, significantly refining the functioning of the union. Sewabu indicated, “We will be having a lot of new changes in the coming weeks, with regards to the structures, the systems and the people. So there will be some new appointments that will come up as part of the new change.”
Furthermore, he has laid out plans for nationwide visits and audits of member unions aimed at enhancing standards in crucial areas such as governance, coaching, training, education, accreditation, and adherence to participation rules. This comprehensive approach underscores Sewabu’s commitment to not only revamp the Fiji Rugby Union but also to uplift rugby standards across the nation.
These forthcoming changes present a hopeful opportunity for the Fiji Rugby Union to grow and excel in various realms, ensuring a stronger foundation for the sport in the country.
