During the 10th-anniversary livestream of Kojima Productions, the renowned game designer Hideo Kojima unveiled a new direction for his upcoming PlayStation-exclusive title, Physint. Echoing the “tactical espionage action” style reminiscent of his classic Metal Gear Solid series, Physint marks a departure from Kojima’s more recent projects like Death Stranding.
The newly released poster provides a glimpse into the game’s enigmatic protagonist, whose identity remains intentionally concealed. During the event, Kojima mentioned that the casting of the main character faced delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Nonetheless, he announced three confirmed cast members: Don Lee, recognized for roles in Eternals and Train to Busan; Charlee Fraser, known for her performance in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga; and Minami Hamabe, who starred in Godzilla Minus One.
Physint is set to operate on an enhanced version of the Decima Engine, the powerful engine behind Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn. While no definitive release date has been set, the game is anticipated to launch within the next six years, even further out than Kojima’s other project, OD.
In a futuristic twist, Kojima describes Physint as both a game and a movie. He emphasized its cinematic quality, suggesting that casual observers might mistake gameplay for a film due to its immersive and graphical prowess.
The livestream event celebrated not only Physint but also included a variety of announcements, showcasing snippets from OD, introducing a Death Stranding anime adaptation, and even unveiling a special Kojima Productions sake. Enthusiastic praise for Kojima’s work and impact in the gaming industry permeated the event, highlighting the excitement surrounding these new ventures.
With Physint, Kojima continues to push the boundaries of interactive media, promising an experience that blurs the lines between gaming and cinema, an exciting prospect for both fans of his past work and newcomers alike.
