The New York Knicks are actively progressing in their search for a new head coach, recently interviewing veteran NBA coach Mike Brown. This development, reported by league insider Jake Fischer, follows the Knicks’ decision to part ways with Tom Thibodeau after five seasons in charge.
Brown, who was dismissed mid-season as head coach of the Sacramento Kings, previously made headlines for leading the Kings to their first playoff appearance in 17 years during the 2022-23 season. His career coaching record stands at 454 wins and 304 losses across 11 seasons with the Cavaliers, Lakers, and Kings, including a run to the NBA Finals in 2007.
The Knicks are exploring several coaching candidates after facing difficulties in contacting some top names. Initial attempts to interview Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd were denied, and reports indicate the franchise has also been turned away by Ime Udoka of the Rockets, Chris Finch of the Timberwolves, Quin Snyder of the Hawks, and Billy Donovan of the Bulls.
In addition to Brown, the Knicks are considering former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins, who finished his tenure in Memphis with a 250-214 record but managed only one playoff series victory. Other notable coaching figures available include Michael Malone, the former Nuggets coach, although discussions between him and the Knicks have yet to gain momentum.
Meanwhile, Jay Wright and Dan Hurley, who were rumored candidates, have both opted not to pursue the position, narrowing the field for the Knicks as they look for a new leader to guide the franchise moving forward.
