Knicks' Roster Shake-Up: Who's Leaving and Who's Coming?

Knicks’ Roster Shake-Up: Who’s Leaving and Who’s Coming?

With Tom Thibodeau no longer at the helm of the New York Knicks, the team is poised for potential alterations to its roster. The appointment of a new head coach could lead to both innovative strategies and the possibility of new player acquisitions.

Dan Favale of Bleacher Report suggests that if the Knicks venture into the trade market, Josh Hart is likely to be the primary candidate to be traded. Favale argues that in the case of substantial offseason changes, parting with one of their top six players would be necessary. He points out that Hart, with a salary of $19.5 million, emerges as the more probable tradeable asset compared to Mitchell Robinson due to the latter’s unique skill set focused on size and defensive prowess.

Despite being a fan favorite, Hart’s fit within the new coach’s system may dictate his future with the team. Over the last season, Hart played in 77 games, averaging 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists while shooting 52.5% from the field.

In addition to Hart’s potential departure, the Knicks have expressed interest in Jaren Jackson Jr., as reported by ClutchPoints’ Kris Pursiainen. A prominent member of the Knicks’ front office is keen on Jackson Jr. as a target, seeing a potential trade involving Mikal Bridges. Jackson, a former Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time All-Defense First Team selection, would form a dynamic frontcourt alongside Karl-Anthony Towns, enhancing the Knicks’ defensive and offensive capabilities.

Before any trades can be considered, the Knicks need to finalize the selection of a new head coach. Former Knicks player DeAndre Jordan has recommended Mike Malone for the role, highlighting his competitive nature, experience, and championship credentials. Jordan believes Malone could revitalize the team’s culture and take full advantage of the players’ talents.

As the franchise awaits the appointment of a new head coach, Knicks fans remain hopeful that the changes will lead to a stronger roster and improved performance in the upcoming season.
