The Heartland Sisters netball team from Kinoya celebrated a triumphant opening at the Central Community Games, defeating Caubati with a score of 15-9. The match took place at the National Netball Centre in Laucala, where the young team’s skill and tenacity were on full display.
Team manager Eleni Kataduadua expressed immense pride in the girls’ performance, especially considering the limited time they had to unite as a team. “The girls really did well on the court; we had less time to form the team but I’m thankful for the girls’ hard work in getting the win,” Kataduadua stated.
With a roster dominated by young talent, Kataduadua highlighted the importance of offering these players opportunities for development. Participating in events like the Central Community Games is crucial for their growth and future dreams of donning the national jersey. “We have a young side; it’s all about learning and growing. With a young team, we need to get them exposed, and maybe one day they will wear the national jersey and represent the country,” she shared.
The Heartland Sisters showcased remarkable composure and resilience against a formidable opponent in Caubati. Kataduadua commended her team’s focus under pressure, which was instrumental in securing their victory.
Looking ahead, she acknowledged the areas that require refinement, particularly in ball handling, but remains hopeful about the girls’ potential and their path toward future success. Additionally, she expressed gratitude for the steadfast support from the fans and parents, which bolstered the team’s morale.
As the competition concludes, there is a palpable excitement about the future journeys of these aspiring athletes in the world of netball. The Heartland Sisters’ performance not only highlights their dedication but also embodies the spirit of growth and athletic achievement within their community.
