North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent warm New Year’s greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing the profound ties between their nations. This correspondence follows Putin’s earlier message to Kim on December 20. Kim highlighted the “invincibility and might” of the alliance, stating that the two countries share “blood, life and death in the same trench.” This remark underscores the commitment of North Korean troops who are currently aiding Russian forces in their operations in Ukraine.
In his letter, Kim articulated that the relationship between North Korea and Russia has solidified into a sincere alliance that has been tested through historical challenges. He expressed confidence in the “peculiar invincibility and might” of their alliance, framing it as a cherished legacy to be upheld for future generations. Kim’s pride in the historic bond of DPRK-Russia relations resonated throughout his message, proclaiming that “justice and truth, victory and glory will always stand by you and your Russia.”
The mutual exchange of greetings demonstrates the growing strategic partnership, with Russia expressing its interest in fostering deeper collaborations with North Korea. The aim is to enhance “comprehensive strategic partnership,” focusing on cooperation between the United Russia Party and the Workers’ Party of Korea.
Earlier in April, North Korea confirmed the deployment of troops to Russia to support its military efforts in Ukraine, an initiative that reportedly helped Russia regain control of territories previously occupied by Ukrainian forces. This continued collaboration illustrates the evolving dynamics of international relations in the region, hinting at a deepening partnership that could have significant implications for global geopolitics.
