Killeen ISD reports progress in 2025 TEA accountability ratings as most campuses hold steady or improve
Killeen Independent School District announced meaningful progress in the 2025 Texas Education Agency accountability ratings, with the majority of campuses maintaining or boosting their overall performance. District leaders acknowledge ongoing challenges and reaffirm their commitment to urgent, focused action.
Key highlights from the ratings show that 22 campuses increased their overall score, while five campuses maintained their score. In total, 27 of the district’s 49 rated campuses held steady or improved.
Highlights by campus level
– High schools: Of seven rated, six improved their overall score.
– Middle schools: Of 12, six improved, including four of the district’s highest-need middle schools.
– Elementary schools: Ten of 31 elementary campuses saw improvement.
– D or F ratings: The district reduced the number of D or F rated schools by four, from 13 to nine.
– Distinction designations: 21 campuses earned distinctions for achievement, growth, closing the gaps, or post-secondary readiness.
Interim Superintendent Dr. King Davis credited the district’s strategic focus for the gains. He pointed to last year’s shift to standardized instructional materials, including an emphasis on phonics-based instruction in elementary schools, as well as designated intervention class periods at secondary campuses.
“We are encouraged by the growth we’re seeing, especially in our secondary schools and in our highest-need campuses,” Davis said. “At the same time, we know some of our campuses face longstanding challenges that must be addressed. These results show progress, but they also remind us of the important work still ahead. The dedication of our leaders, teachers, staff, and students gives us confidence that we can continue to build momentum.”
Davis emphasized that district leaders will continue to study the accountability reports closely and implement targeted action plans. The goal, he said, is clear: to ensure every student in Killeen ISD is challenged and supported to grow throughout their educational journey.
What this means for families and the community
– The gains suggest a positive trajectory, with more campuses meeting or exceeding accountability benchmarks.
– The concentration of improvements in middle and high schools, as well as high-need campuses, reflects targeted investments in instruction, interventions, and college readiness.
– Ongoing action plans indicate a sustained focus on closing achievement gaps and supporting students across all grade levels.
Summary
Killeen ISD reports encouraging progress in the 2025 TEA accountability ratings, with a substantial number of campuses improving or maintaining strong performance and more campuses earning distinctions. While the district acknowledges ongoing challenges, leadership emphasizes focused, data-driven work and continued investment in instructional materials, targeted interventions, and student support to keep the momentum going.
Positive outlook
The district’s measured gains, particularly in its secondary and high-need campuses, lay a foundation for continued improvement and greater post-secondary readiness for students across the district.
