Killeen ISD Names Lone Superintendent Finalist — What Comes Next?

KILLEEN, Texas — The Killeen Independent School District (KISD) has announced Dr. King Davis as the lone finalist for the superintendent position, following a unanimous decision by the Board of Trustees on Monday night.

In a press release, KISD described Dr. Davis as an experienced educator who brings a calm and steady presence, coupled with the ability to foster trust during challenging times. His interim tenure, which began on August 11, was noted as a period in which he demonstrated his suitability for the permanent role.

Expressing gratitude for the Board of Trustees’ decision, Dr. Davis commented on the meaningful opportunity before him. “Killeen ISD has a proud history and a promising future,” he stated. He acknowledged the district’s diversity, strength, and resilience, along with recognizing the important responsibilities that come with the superintendent role.

Dr. Davis emphasized the current pivotal period for KISD, highlighting the challenges faced by the district that have tested unity and trust. He expressed belief in the district’s potential, citing conversations with educators and visits to classrooms as evidence of a community dedicated to improvement. He stated, “Together, we have the foundation we need to rebuild trust, accelerate student learning, and create a culture where every voice feels heard and valued.”

As interim superintendent, Dr. Davis focused on stabilizing the district while actively listening to its needs. Now, as the finalist for the permanent position, he aims to progress with plans that emphasize academic excellence, transparency, and community collaboration. In his upcoming communications, he plans to outline his vision and priorities and to engage directly with staff, families, and community members.

The board’s decision necessitates a state-mandated 21-day waiting period, after which they are expected to officially appoint Dr. Davis as the superintendent in November. The search for a new superintendent has been a complex and lengthy process for KISD, making this announcement a significant step forward for the district.

With a commitment to fostering a stronger Killeen ISD, Dr. Davis looks forward to leading the district into a new chapter that reflects its dedication to students, staff, and the broader community.
