Kicking Into the Future: Jets Sign “Thiccer Kicker” Harrison Mevis

A notable kicker from the University of Missouri, Harrison Mevis, has officially joined the New York Jets after signing a contract on Tuesday. Previously, Mevis played for the Birmingham Stallions in the United Football League and is known for his impressive college career, where he earned a Second Team All-SEC selection in 2023 during his final season at Mizzou.

The Jets faced significant struggles in their kicking game last season, utilizing five different kickers, none of whom managed to make a lasting impact by playing more than eight games. This situation creates an opportunity for Mevis, who gained momentum with a remarkable 61-yard field goal that clinched a victory over Kansas State as time expired.

Hailing from Warsaw, Indiana, Mevis is affectionately nicknamed the “Thiccer Kicker” and was recognized as a First Team All-America selection in 2021. He initially signed as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers but was released in August 2024. With his new contract, Mevis is set to prove himself in the 2025 season with the Jets, potentially bringing stability to the team’s kicking position.

This signing represents a positive step for Mevis and the Jets as they both look to enhance their performance moving forward. It’s a chance for Mevis to redeem himself on a larger stage and contribute to the success of an NFL team.
