Kherson is currently grappling with a severe gas supply crisis, largely attributed to ongoing enemy shelling that has resulted in significant damage to vital energy infrastructure. In light of these challenges, the Ukrainian government, led by Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, has initiated a program to provide residents with electric and gas heaters, particularly in frontline regions such as Kherson Oblast. The situation has worsened following a series of attacks on gas extraction facilities, with a notable strike occurring on January 17. In just one week, six assaults have targeted infrastructure related to the state energy company ‘Naftogaz’. To alleviate the immediate crisis, ‘Naftogaz’ has distributed 1,750 heaters to the residents of Kherson to help offset the lack of heating caused by the disruptions.
In a concerted effort to repair the damage inflicted by the shelling, a total of 474 emergency crews from gas distribution networks are currently engaged in heightened operational schedules. More than 2,000 workers from gas service teams are focused on restoring supply in the impacted areas.
