LONDON – The Israeli Defense Forces have reported the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah following airstrikes in Beirut, according to officials.
In a statement issued on Saturday morning, the IDF confirmed that on Friday, September 27, 2024, Nasrallah, a co-founder of the Hezbollah terrorist organization, was killed alongside Ali Karki, the commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front, and several other commanders.
The IDF stated that the targeted airstrike was based on precise intelligence gathered from Israeli security agencies and took place at Hezbollah’s Central Headquarters, which is located underground beneath a residential building in Beirut’s Dahieh area. The operation was conducted while senior members of Hezbollah’s command were present at the headquarters and active in planning attacks against Israel.
During his 32 years as Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Nasrallah was accused of orchestrating the deaths of numerous Israeli civilians and soldiers, as well as planning countless terrorist activities globally. The IDF described him as the main decision-maker and strategic leader of the organization, stating that he had led various attacks resulting in casualties among civilians of many nationalities.
The IDF also noted that Hezbollah had allied with Hamas in its conflict against Israel, following the initiation of hostilities on October 8th. Since then, Hezbollah has allegedly continued its attacks on Israeli citizens, contributing to escalating tensions in the region.
The Israeli military pledged to persist in their efforts against those who perpetrate terrorism against Israel and its citizens.
