Kevin Gates recently opened up about the emotional impact of his father’s death from AIDS during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, Club Shay Shay. The 39-year-old rapper discussed the circumstances surrounding his father’s illness and shared his thoughts on how he believes he could have made a difference.

During the interview, Sharpe inquired about how Gates’ father contracted the virus, to which Gates simply replied, “needle,” indicating that his father likely shared syringes with an infected person. Reflecting on his father’s passing when Gates was just a teenager, he expressed deep admiration for him. “He was so beautiful. If you could’ve seen my dad, he was beautiful,” he remarked, emphasizing the strong bond they shared.

Gates disclosed that he remained by his father’s side throughout his illness, stating, “I was with him for a long time.” He deeply regrets that he was not able to help his father and believes his father’s death ignited his passion for holistic medicine. Gates expressed a desire that had he possessed the knowledge he has now, he could have potentially cured his father.

Despite noting that he does not consider himself a healer like the controversial Dr. Sebi, Gates credited his father for instilling in him a serious approach to health. Gates has been open about his own health journey involving practices such as intermittent fasting, sobriety, yoga, and bodyweight exercises. He previously shared insights into his fitness routine, highlighting the benefits of hiking mixed with gym workouts.

Through his reflections, Gates underscores the importance of health awareness and the lessons learned from personal hardships. His commitment to fitness and well-being speaks to a hopeful narrative of using past experiences to inspire a healthier future, showcasing how adversity can serve as a catalyst for positive change.
