Kevin Alves, known for his role in “Yellowjackets,” is set to make his directorial debut with the coming-of-age heist film “Lucky Weekend.” This indie project boasts a cast featuring his “Yellowjackets” co-star Alexa Barajas, along with talents such as Jessica Clement from “Gen V,” newcomer Clarice Wood, Jesse Camacho, John Daniel, Agape Mngomezulu, Jack Ettlinger, Luke Hutchie, and Alex Ozerov-Meyer.
Produced through Alves’ 31 Twelve Films, the film is currently in post-production and is scheduled to enter the festival circuit in 2026. Alves has also taken on the role of writer for the film, which tells the story of 18-year-old Gabe, who discovers that his best friend has stolen his winning scratch-off ticket. In a race against time, Gabe rallies a group of unlikely allies to help him retrieve the ticket before it can be cashed in, all unfolding within a single weekend.
Alves shared his inspiration for “Lucky Weekend,” noting, “The relationships reminded me of kids at the park. You meet someone and within an hour, they’re suddenly your best friend and you’d go to battle for them. We want audiences to feel like part of the group, along for the ride. At its core, this story is about friendship — how it begins, how it shifts, and how it can save you.”
Alves continues to shine in his acting career, with “Yellowjackets” set to premiere its fourth and final season next year. He and his co-stars, including Ella Purnell, Melanie Lynskey, Sophie Thatcher, and Tawny Cypress, are gearing up for production on the acclaimed show. Recently, Alves has also completed filming for the horror-thriller “ScareBnB.”
With “Lucky Weekend,” Alves not only steps into the director’s chair but also emphasizes themes of camaraderie and connection, promising audiences a heartwarming and adventurous experience.
