Steve Kerr, head coach of the Golden State Warriors and the USA men’s Olympic gold-winning basketball team, addressed attendees at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday.

In his speech, Kerr shared his views on leadership, stating, “As a coach and former player, as a husband, a son, a father, even a grandfather, and as an American, I believe in a certain kind of leadership. I believe leaders must display dignity. I believe that leaders must tell the truth.” He emphasized that these qualities are also desirable in friends and family.

Kerr questioned, “Shouldn’t you want those same qualities in your president?” He implied that in this context, the decision is clear. He expressed his support for the Harris-Walz ticket, arguing that the country needs “real leadership.”

Concluding his remarks, Kerr playfully referenced NBA star Steph Curry’s famous “night night” celebration gesture, mimicking placing his hands to the side of his head. He added that after the votes are counted on Election Night, “in the words of the great Steph Curry, we can tell Donald Trump, ‘Night, night.’”

On the first day of the convention, delegates officially adopted a party platform. Throughout the week, Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are expected to formally accept their nominations as the party’s candidates.
