Kentucky Highway Shooting: Manhunt Underway for Armed Suspect

Authorities are actively searching for a suspect following a shooting in Kentucky that left multiple individuals injured. The incident occurred near a highway north of London, Kentucky, prompting a quick response from law enforcement.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, approximately 8 miles north of London, around 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time. They discovered that nine vehicles had been struck by gunfire, resulting in five individuals suffering serious injuries. Initial statements from London Mayor Randall Weddle indicated that up to seven people were hurt, though not all injuries were from gunshots; some were related to car accidents. Fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities.

The shooting took place on Interstate 75 at exit 49, which was temporarily closed due to the active situation. However, the interstate has since reopened for both north and southbound traffic, as confirmed by the London Police Department.

Law enforcement has identified a person of interest in the case, Joseph A. Couch, a 32-year-old white male who stands approximately 5’10” and weighs around 154 pounds. Authorities warn that he is considered armed and dangerous, and the public is advised not to approach him.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the scene would be secured overnight, with an intensive search and investigation set to continue at daybreak on Sunday. Various local and federal agencies, including the FBI and ATF, are collaborating in the investigation.

Mayor Weddle urged the public to avoid the area and to select alternative routes, specifically advising against using U.S. Route 25 between London and Livingston.
