A Kentucky mother, Holly LaFavers, experienced a major surprise when her son Liam, 8, accidentally ordered nearly 70,000 Dum-Dum lollipops from Amazon. The incident occurred on May 4, while Holly was busy making breakfast. Liam mistakenly thought he was adding a few treats to their Amazon cart, but ended up placing an order for 30 cases, totaling a staggering $4,200 charge on her bank account.
Upon discovering the oversized charge—after realizing her account was in the red—Holly was thrown into a panic. “How am I going to feed my child? How am I going to provide for my child?” she recalled thinking. While Holly attempted to reject the delivery, the carrier didn’t knock on her door, leading to 22 boxes of lollipops arriving to her condominium.
A fortunate turn of events came when Holly managed to stop a second delivery of lollipops. After this, she turned to social media to sell some of the excess candy. Local support emerged, and after being contacted by a news station, Amazon agreed to refund her the full amount.
Ultimately, the LaFaver family donated the lollipops to local charities and their church, expressing gratitude for the unexpected windfall and the chance to help others. “You can give some to your granddaughters,” Liam sweetly offered while donating at his church.
In addition to this quirky turn of events, it’s important to note that Liam has fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, which affects his understanding of cause-and-effect relationships. Holly hopes that this incident raises awareness about the challenges faced by children dealing with this condition, promoting better understanding and support within the community.
An Amazon spokesperson commented that they were pleased to have resolved the situation positively, helping to turn an unexpected mishap into a generous outcome. This story highlights not only the importance of community support but also offers hope for increased awareness regarding the needs of children with special conditions.
