Rapper Kendrick Lamar has been announced as the performer for the Super Bowl LIX halftime show. In a video shared on Sunday, Lamar introduced himself and expressed his excitement to take the stage, inviting fans to join him in New Orleans on February 9, 2025.
In the video, he said, “What’s the deal everybody? My name is Kendrick Lamar and I’ll be performing at Super Bowl 59. Will you be pulling up? I hope so.” He further encouraged attendees to “make sure you’re wearing your best dress” while standing in front of an American flag.
The 17-time Grammy Award winner stated, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one,” in a release from the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation, who is producing the show.
Jay-Z, the founder of Roc Nation, also commented on the announcement, calling Lamar “a once-in-a-generation artist and performer.” He praised Lamar’s deep connection to hip-hop and his ability to influence culture on a global scale, noting that his impact goes beyond music.
Last year, Usher performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in Las Vegas, showcasing a selection of his hit songs. The revelation of Kendrick Lamar’s performance comes as the new NFL season begins its first series of Sunday games.
