After what appeared to be a resolution in the rivalry between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake, Lamar has released a new song.
On Tuesday evening, just as the MTV VMAs were beginning, Lamar shared an untitled track on his Instagram Reels without any accompanying caption. The track follows the success of his single “Not Like Us,” which aimed jabs at Drake and was nominated for three VMAs but ultimately did not win any awards.
This new song is currently available exclusively on Instagram, similar to how he previously released “6:16 in L.A.,” another diss track directed at Drake. While some fans interpreted the new track as another attack on Drake and his crew, others viewed it as commentary on the present state of the rap industry.
The untitled track includes bold lyrics expressing a desire to see “the party die,” along with references to burning down a village, starting anew, and envisioning a “new Earth.” Fans also speculated about the meaning behind the song’s cover art, which features black Air Force 1 sneakers, a symbol often associated with mischievous behavior according to pop culture discussions.
Lamar’s feud with Drake spanned several months, generating nine diss tracks from both sides. Many fans deemed Lamar the victor of this rivalry, especially after his track “Not Like Us” received widespread acclaim and topped the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the summer’s leading songs.
Recently, Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans next year. In response to this announcement, Lamar stated, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
