Kelsea Ballerini recently shared an intimate evening with her fans, providing them with insights into her new album, PATTERNS, and her creative journey. During the conversation, she discussed the pressures and inspirations behind her music.
On her creative process, Kelsea remarked, “This is the most pressure I’ve ever put on myself to make a record, because I felt so grateful that there were new ears on my music, but I also wanted to honor those who have supported me since ‘Love Me Like You Mean It.’”
Regarding her new album, she highlighted its diversity, saying, “There’s a lot on it. If you want a friendship song, it’s there. If you want a falling-in-love song, it’s there. If you want a song for when you’re extremely frustrated, obviously, it’s there—there’s a couple of those!” She also emphasized that this album is filled with love, stating, “I would argue that this is the most love-filled record I’ve ever made. The presence of love is central in every song, particularly exploring the nuances of love as relationships evolve.”
As she prepares to perform at Madison Square Garden for the first time next week, Kelsea expressed her excitement. “I’m so excited. The fact that it sold out before the album came out makes me want to put on the best show I ever have. I haven’t really toured this year because I wanted to have space to create the record. My favorite thing is writing songs, and there’s something incredibly connecting about attending live shows—whether small venues or big stadiums. It creates a powerful energy that I’ve really missed.”
Reflecting on her own personal patterns in relationships, Kelsea shared, “I cut and ghost. When a relationship or an opportunity doesn’t go as I envisioned, I would rather break my own heart first. I’ve learned the hard way that this approach no longer serves me, and that is the central theme of this album.”
