The Women’s Super G competition at the Milano Cortina Olympics proved to be a challenging event, turning simply finishing into a notable achievement. A total of 26 competitors crossed the finish line, while 17 athletes were unable to complete the course due to its difficult conditions, resulting in several crashes throughout the race.
Among those who completed the course was Tuolumne County native Keely Cashman, who secured a 15th place finish with a time of 1:25:61. This was just over two seconds behind the gold medal winner, Federica Brignone of Italy, whose winning time was 1:23:41. Cashman was the second highest finisher for the United States, trailing Jacqueline Wiles, who took 13th place with a time of 1:25:40.
In a statement released through the US Ski and Snowboard team, Cashman expressed her disappointment with the outcome, stating, “I had high expectations for today, and just kind of didn’t happen how I wanted it to. But that’s ski racing.” This event marked Cashman’s final competition of the 2026 games, where she previously finished 15th in the Women’s Team Combined event.
Fellow US competitors Breezy Johnson, a gold medalist in downhill, and Mary Bocock also faced challenges, both failing to finish the course. The determination displayed by Cashman and her fellow competitors amid the difficult race conditions showcases the resilience and dedication of athletes at this elite level.
NBC Universal continues to provide exclusive coverage of the Olympic Games, including the highlights of Cashman’s performance, as detailed on NBC Los Angeles’ website.
