Kawa Shocks Trevisan: Rising Star Eyes WTA Glory in Bastad

Katarzyna Kawa has advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 tournament in Bastad, following a strong performance where she defeated Martina Trevisan, a semifinalist from Roland Garros in 2022. Kawa, ranked 132nd in the WTA, showcased her skills by winning the match decisively with a score of 6:2, 6:3.

In the previous round, Kawa faced Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, who was seeded fourth in the tournament and had a solid reputation on clay courts. Despite not being favored to win, Kawa surprised many by overcoming Parrizas-Diaz in a thrilling match that ended 7:6(1), 0:6, 6:3.

Trevisan entered the match against Kawa after a break from play, having previously defeated Astra Sharma in the first round. Although she has a history of success on clay, including reaching the quarterfinals of Roland Garros in 2020, she was unable to match Kawa’s form in this encounter, ultimately succumbing to a straight-sets defeat.

Looking ahead, Kawa will face Dalma Galfi in the quarterfinals. Galfi is currently ranked 110th in the WTA and is the seventh seed in this tournament. Besides her tennis career, she is personally connected to Kawa as her partner is Polish doubles player Jan Zieliński. This quarterfinal clash is sure to be an exciting matchup as both players seek to advance further in the competition.

Kawa’s impressive play throughout the tournament highlights her growing confidence and skill on the court, providing a hopeful outlook for her future matches.
