Katy Perry’s Heartfelt Tribute: Love, Laughter, and a VMA Win!

Orlando Bloom expressed his heartfelt admiration for Katy Perry during the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), where she was honored with the prestigious Video Vanguard award, recognizing her lifetime achievements. The ceremony took place at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York.

Perry’s accolade places her among iconic artists such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna, who have also received this significant recognition.

As Bloom presented the award, he warmly recounted what Perry means to him, referencing her birth name, Katheryn Hudson. He shared, “You fell in love with her as Katy Perry, I fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson. You know her as a global superstar who brings love, light, and her unique sense of humor to every song she writes and music video she creates. I know her as a mother and as a partner who brings that same love and joy to our family.”

In his tribute, he also highlighted the impact of her music, stating, “In moments when we’ve most needed it, her music and the remarkable world she creates have brought a sense of joy and laughter, inspiring generations of people from all over the world. She loves with her whole heart and it’s kind of irresistible.”

Bloom concluded with congratulations for Perry, expressing pride in her achievement and referencing her upcoming album, titled 143, which she identifies as her angel number.

Perry joined Bloom on stage, charmingly embracing and kissing him while holding a butterfly. The couple had previously showcased their affection at the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner in New York City.

During the event, Perry delivered a medley of her famous hits, including “Roar,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Firework.” Upon accepting her award, she humorously remarked, “I did that all too on the first day of my period too, can you believe it?” She expressed gratitude to MTV for supporting her creativity, saying, “Thank you so much MTV for believing in my weirdness from day one and for helping artists extend their worlds beyond a song. There are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist. There are no decade-long accidents.”
