Katy Perry Shines with Heartfelt Tribute at MTV VMAs

Orlando Bloom praised Katy Perry during a heartfelt tribute at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, where she was awarded the prestigious Video Vanguard award, recognizing her lifetime achievements. The ceremony took place on Wednesday evening at the UBS Arena on Long Island, New York.

Perry joins the ranks of previous honorees such as Beyonce, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna. Bloom, 47, presented the award and shared personal sentiments about Perry, revealing her birth name, Katheryn Hudson, in his remarks.

He expressed, “You fell in love with her as Katy Perry, I fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson. You know her as a global superstar who brings love, light, and a unique sense of humor to every song she writes and music video she creates. I know her as a mother and a partner who brings that same love and joy to our family.”

Bloom highlighted the impact of her music, stating that it has brought joy and inspiration to generations worldwide. He concluded with a sweet note, saying, “Congratulations on this honour, baby, I’m so proud of you,” and referenced her upcoming seventh album titled 143, which she has described as her angel number.

As Perry made her way onto the stage, she embraced and kissed Bloom while holding a butterfly. The couple also displayed affection on the red carpet earlier in the week at the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women dinner in New York City.

During the awards, Perry performed a medley of her most popular songs, including “Roar,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Firework.” In her acceptance speech, she humorously noted, “I did that all too on the first day of my period too, can you believe it. Thank you so much MTV for believing in my weirdness from day one and for helping artists extend their worlds beyond a song. There are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist. There are no decade-long accidents.”
