Katy Perry opened up about her past relationship struggles with fiancé Orlando Bloom during a recent episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast hosted by Alex Cooper. The 39-year-old singer became emotional as she reflected on their nearly year-long breakup that occurred between 2017 and 2018.

Perry and Bloom began dating in 2016, broke up the following year, reconciled a year later, and became engaged in 2019. The couple shares a 4-year-old daughter named Daisy. During their separation, Perry described their communication as minimal, noting that Bloom maintained boundaries.

The singer highlighted the importance of self-work before nurturing their relationship, admitting that she often struggled to ask for help and relied on a strong, independent persona. She expressed a revelation from a recent guided experience, acknowledging her need for support and connection.

Reflecting on their early relationship, Perry recalled how they were in different stages of personal growth. While Bloom had focused on self-improvement, she was transitioning out of a previous relationship and hadn’t fully engaged in her own development. A significant change came when Bloom attended the Hoffman Process, a weeklong therapy retreat, which led him to approach their relationship differently.

Perry noted that after Bloom’s transformation, she found herself feeling unchallenged and decided to explore the same intensive therapy program. This experience proved life-changing for her, as it equipped her with tools for personal growth and self-reflection, which she credited with saving her life.

Throughout her journey, she realized her previous reliance on external validation to define her self-worth, particularly highlighted during the release of her 2017 album, “Witness.” Although she believed she had a strong self-image, she recognized that it was largely built on others’ opinions.

Perry also spoke fondly of Bloom’s adventurous spirit and loyalty as qualities that initially attracted her to him. As they continue to work on their individual and collective growth, she expressed optimism about deepening their bond, emphasizing the importance of embracing challenges within their relationship to facilitate continued development.
