Disney+ is making exciting strides with its adaptation of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” recently announcing that former Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon will portray the Greek love goddess Aphrodite. This casting choice continues the trend of the series bringing in established comedic talent to enhance its celestial ensemble.

As Aphrodite, McKinnon is set to challenge Walker Scobell’s Percy with tests of love before offering her assistance. Fans can anticipate humor intertwined with mythology, likely infused with McKinnon’s signature comedic style. Notably, Aphrodite has a rich narrative history that includes transforming statues into women and playing a significant role in the events of the Trojan War, providing ample material for McKinnon’s performance.

McKinnon has taken a step back from her previous saturation in the film and television landscape but recently made appearances in “Barbie” and “The Roses,” along with a brief uncredited role in “A Minecraft Movie.” Joining her in this revamped depiction of Greek mythology are a diverse cast of actors, including Jason Mantzoukas, Timothy Omundsun, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jay Duplass, Toby Stephens, and Courtney B. Vance, who is taking over the pivotal role of Zeus after the passing of Lance Reddick.

The much-anticipated second season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is set to premiere on Disney+ on December 10, 2025. Moreover, the series has already been renewed for a third season, which will adapt Rick Riordan’s beloved book “The Titan’s Curse,” keeping fans engaged with the dynamic story and characters. With McKinnon’s addition, the show promises to blend humor and mythology, appealing to a broad audience while continuing to develop its narrative depth.
