Kansas head coach Bill Self has been hospitalized, according to a statement from the University of Kansas. The 61-year-old basketball coach felt unwell on Monday and was taken to LMH Health for precautionary measures, where he received IV fluids. While he is reportedly feeling better, he did not travel with the team to Boulder for their upcoming game against Colorado, scheduled for Tuesday night at 10 p.m. CT.
Self has faced health challenges over the past few years, having been hospitalized multiple times. Notably, he missed several games during the Big 12 and NCAA Tournament in March 2023 with a top-seeded Kansas team. Additionally, he underwent a procedure in July 2025 to insert two stents for blocked arteries.
In August, he expressed optimism about his health, saying he felt “pretty good” and emphasized that improvements in his lifestyle choices, especially regarding diet and exercise, would benefit his well-being. As of now, with Norm Roberts no longer on staff to serve as interim coach, associate head coach Jeremy Case is expected to take the reins during Self’s absence.
With Kansas riding a wave of momentum from their recent victories, fans remain hopeful for a strong performance against Colorado, showcasing the team’s resilience and depth in coaching staff.
