KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City Athletics have announced a new partnership with the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City (The J), aimed at enhancing local youth programs, increasing fan engagement, and creating special events through the Roo Athletic Fund.
Dr. Brandon Martin, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics, emphasized the importance of building relationships with organizations that contribute to the Kansas City community. He noted, “The J has been a staple in the community for decades, and this collaboration will help both organizations strengthen their ties with the residents who make Kansas City a great place to live.”
The J is recognized as one of the largest community centers in Kansas City, offering a variety of programs for all ages, particularly focusing on youth sports. This partnership will enhance The J’s offerings by integrating resources and expertise from Kansas City Athletics.
Bob Hennecke, Director of Sports and Recreation at The J, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “The Roos are a significant part of Kansas City, and we eagerly anticipate hosting events with various teams as well as increasing our participants’ engagement with a local Division One institution.”
This partnership marks a notable advancement for both organizations, providing essential resources and engaging experiences for the community. Additionally, opportunities for co-marketing and special events will play a crucial role in furthering both organizations’ missions.
Jason Sautter, Manager of Sports and Recreation at The J and former Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Kansas City, highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership. With over 13,000 members at The J, he said it presents a great opportunity for both parties, giving young members a chance to connect with Division One athletes while also providing Kansas City Athletics access to a vast network.
The partnership officially commenced in August with a mini-clinic led by Kansas City Volleyball’s Head Coach Christi Posey and student-athletes. Kansas City Soccer will follow up with mini-clinics in the spring, focusing on youth athlete development and resources for youth coaches. Furthermore, Kansas City Athletics will extend group ticketing rates to The J’s members, facilitating their attendance at local sports events.
Throughout the year, youth teams from The J will be showcased during Kansas City Athletics games, allowing them to interact with the student-athletes. As the basketball season approaches, a special event involving the Kansas City Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams will officially launch the partnership.
