The Kaiviti Silktails Rugby League Football Club has unveiled their 2025 Community Engagement Report Card, showcasing significant strides in community involvement. Throughout the year, the club successfully executed 38 community engagements, dedicating an impressive total of 608 hours to various initiatives. These efforts culminated in generating $258,000 in community project value, alongside the collection of $50,800 in community funds for the year.
Stephen Driscoll, the club’s executive director, expressed pride in these accomplishments, highlighting the transformative impact of the Kaiviti Silktails Community Youth Program (KSCYP). “Our players and staff are making a lasting impact on their communities,” Driscoll asserted, emphasizing the club’s commitment to community engagement and education.
The KSCYP program is emblematic of the club’s mission to empower young players through active community participation. This initiative carries the legacy of the late Jacquie Shannon, the club’s first manager, whose influence is permanently honored in the KSCYP logo. Shannon, who was a pivotal figure during the club’s relocation between 2021 and 2022, sadly passed away from a brain aneurysm on June 18, 2022, in Australia.
This year, the club’s involvement in the Manoa Thompson Bowl further demonstrated their dedication to community-centric events. Such engagements underscore the club’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for emerging Fijian rugby players while strengthening local ties.
The significant community work, funds raised, and projects undertaken by the Silktails reflect their deep-rooted dedication beyond just the sport. Their initiatives aim not only to inspire young talents in Fiji but also to build strong community connections through shared experiences and collaboration. These efforts highlight the pivotal role of sports in fostering unity and support, illustrating how sporting entities can be powerful catalysts for social cohesion and community well-being.
