Farmers and community members in Kavala, Kadavu, came together last week to celebrate the inauguration of the Grow Plus greenhouse, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing sustainable agriculture and improving local livelihoods.
This project, executed through the collaboration of British American Tobacco Fiji’s Grow Plus program and the Ministry of Agriculture, is designed to provide farmers with high-quality vegetable seedlings, including renowned varieties of eggplant, chili, and tomatoes. By offering a controlled environment for growth, the greenhouse seeks to shield seedlings from pests and diseases, enabling farmers to maintain consistent production year-round.
Launched last Friday, this initiative not only aims to empower rural farmers but also strives to create alternative income avenues and reduce dependency on produce sourced from other communities. The hope is to cultivate a more self-sufficient agricultural sector within the region, ensuring that local farmers thrive and are able to meet both their needs and those of their neighborhoods. This project stands as a promising step toward sustainable agricultural practices that can foster economic growth and resilience among local farming communities.
