Eighteen-year-old Sakiusa Deans Tuicakau Bainivalu marked a remarkable milestone last month by being named Dux of Queen Victoria School for 2025. This prestigious title not only recognizes his outstanding academic achievements but also highlights his resilience and commitment, making his story both inspiring and motivational.
Hailing from Tabuya village in Kadavu, Sakiusa, affectionately known as Saki, is the eldest son of Alitia Bainivalu, the Minister for Forestry and Fisheries in Fiji. His educational path has been adorned with numerous awards and accolades, showcasing his dedication and hard work. At Queen Victoria School, Saki excelled across various subjects, topping Year 13 Science and receiving Best Student prizes in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Science. His excellence was further underscored when he achieved the highest overall score in the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination for 2024.
To celebrate Saki’s achievements, his parents hosted a heartfelt thanksgiving gathering at their home in Domain, Suva, on December 13, 2025. The event united family and friends in honor of Saki’s success and the core values that shaped his journey: humility, gratitude, and perseverance. Ms. Bainivalu expressed immense pride in Saki’s dedication, noting that his accomplishments reflect his character as much as his intellectual capabilities.
As Saki prepares for the next steps in his life, which may include further education or community involvement, Ms. Bainivalu imparted three key pieces of advice: to continually express gratitude in both joyful and challenging moments, to remember his roots and the sacrifices made for his education, and to choose kindness in every encounter.
Sakiusa has also demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility throughout his time at school, sharing that he faced challenges while boarding but took the initiative to uphold cleanliness, particularly in maintaining the toilets for younger students.
