The Kadavu Stallions women’s rugby team celebrated a significant triumph by defeating Sinukakala Women 24–14 to secure the inaugural women’s title at the Yaro Chiefs 7s tournament, held last Friday at Churchill Park. Coach Etuate Nauro praised his players for their dedication and teamwork, which he credited as crucial elements of their success.
Nauro acknowledged the fierce competition posed by Sinukakala Women, particularly their impressive comeback in the second half. “It was all hard work and team effort that paid off,” he remarked, noting that the Stallions elevated their performance under pressure to clinch the victory in the final moments of the match.
The Stallions entered the game with a commanding lead, closing the first half at 12-0, thanks to two tries from Arieta Tonono and a conversion by Mereani Qoro. They extended their advantage in the second half with another try from Maraia Musu. Sinukakala rallied back with two quick tries from Lusiana Tinai and Livia Tubailagi, both successfully converted by Viniana Lewarara, narrowing the score gap. However, Matelita Bai’s pivotal try in the dying seconds confirmed the victory for Kadavu.
This success follows the Stallions’ impressive performance earlier in the season, including a resounding 43-0 victory over the Deuba Rebels at the Fiji Bitter Kadavu Sevens tournament, where their teamwork and strategy were on full display. Their consistent play has earned them accolades from both officials and fans, illustrating their growth and determination in the realm of women’s rugby.
The recent achievements of the Kadavu Stallions not only underscore their athletic prowess but also reflect the robust support from their community. As they continue to exemplify skill and resilience, the future for the Kadavu Stallions looks bright, inspiring hope for further accomplishments in women’s rugby across Fiji.
