“We need to be very careful with the type of development we allow on our shores, as we do not fully understand the potential changes and disadvantages some developments may bring. While something might appear as progress on the surface, there can be hidden risks,” Walai cautioned.
In response to these environmental shifts, the Kavala Greenhouse project is among the initiatives aimed at encouraging collaboration among local farmers, fishermen, and families to develop adaptive strategies. These discussions include adjusting planting schedules and implementing measures to protect vulnerable coastal areas in preparation for the anticipated impacts of climate change.
Walai reinforced that the community’s environmental and lifestyle future depends on the development choices they make today. “The arrival of climate change at our shores means that our decisions today will shape our tomorrow. How we plan for development is critical to countering the challenges posed by climate change,” he remarked.
