Seattle Kraken forward Kaapo Kakko is gearing up for an exciting opportunity as he competes in his first Olympic Games with Team Finland. After facing challenges at the beginning of the season due to injuries, Kakko has picked up his performance just in time for the Olympic break, showcasing his ability and determination on the ice.

“It’s a big thing,” Kakko expressed about the Olympics. “Last time there were no NHL players, so I’m excited. Obviously, one of my goals for this season is to play in those Games. It’s super exciting.” Competing on this prestigious stage is a significant milestone for Kakko, who has previously represented Finland in World Championships at both the under-20 and under-18 levels.

The Olympics hold a special significance for athletes, and for Kakko, being able to represent Finland is an honor. “This thing happens only once in four years, so this is something you want to be a part of,” he remarked, emphasizing the rarity and importance of such an event.

Finland has a strong legacy in international hockey, winning the gold medal in the previous Winter Olympics in 2022. With powerful contenders like Canada and the U.S. fielding NHL All-Stars, the Finnish team also has high expectations. Kakko is optimistic that the team will quickly find their chemistry on the ice, as many players have a history of playing together.

While Kakko acknowledges that Kraken fans will likely support Team USA, he also hopes they will show some affection for Finland as well, highlighting the camaraderie and spirit of the game. As the Olympics approach, all eyes will be on Kakko and his teammates, eager to see if they can once again make history on the international stage.
