Officials at the Prudential Center are working to provide further details to concertgoers following Justin Timberlake’s unexpected decision to postpone his performance at the Newark venue on Tuesday.
The announcement came via Timberlake’s Instagram just before doors opened, where he cited “an injury that is preventing me from performing” as the cause for the postponement.
“I’m so disappointed to not see you all – but I’m working to reschedule ASAP,” Timberlake stated. “I promise to make it up to you and give you the show y’all deserve.”
The Prudential Center is in discussions with Timberlake’s team about a new concert date, but no new date has been set yet. Ticketholders are advised to retain their tickets, and the venue will provide updates via email once the status of the event changes or a rescheduled date is confirmed.
“Please follow both artist and venue social media accounts for updates and keep an eye on your inbox for updates from your original point of purchase,” the venue’s website notes.
Many fans expressed their frustration on Instagram regarding the late notice, mentioning that they had already incurred expenses for travel and childcare in anticipation of the concert, and some wished for more advanced notification. However, others called for understanding towards the singer, noting that he might have sustained an injury just prior to the announcement or could have been advised by medical professionals against performing.
“I highly doubt Justin would cancel so last minute if he didn’t absolutely need to,” one user commented.
Timberlake is currently on The Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which kicked off on April 29 in Vancouver and has featured over 50 performances across North America and Europe. His next scheduled show is on Friday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
This tour was underway when Timberlake faced legal issues in June, being arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, New York. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, leading to a fine and community service sentence.
