This marks his first competitive appearance in nearly six months, and he has chosen to come back at the challenging Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, a venue known for its toughness.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational is one of the Tour’s premier events, featuring a substantial purse of $20 million and a limited field that elevates the competition. However, the decision to make his return at Bay Hill could be seen as daunting, especially considering the rigorous nature of the course. Thomas acknowledges the challenge he faces, stating, “I obviously want to and would love to play well next week, but I’m also understanding that it’ll be, what, almost five, six months since I’ve played a competitive tournament, so I’m not exactly expecting anything great.”
Despite his reservations, Thomas remains hopeful. He noted that all competitors will be grappling with the difficulties of the course, which ranked as the eighth-toughest on the PGA Tour last season, boasting an average score that was over half a stroke above par. “At least everybody else will be struggling with me at Bay Hill, so that’ll make me feel a little bit better, hopefully,” he added.
