A hearing is set for Stephan Sterns, the individual last known to be with Madeline Soto before her tragic death. This plea hearing, scheduled for Monday, comes just a day before his trial was set to begin concerning numerous allegations of sexual abuse.

Recent court documents indicate that Sterns’ phone contained a troubling collection of over 1,500 photos and videos, including several that depicted 13-year-old Madeline being sexually abused. Evidence suggests that the abuse was ongoing for several years prior to her death.

On February 26, 2024, the day Madeline went missing, Sterns initially claimed he dropped her off at school. As law enforcement investigated her disappearance, he provided his phone but asserted that he had inadvertently reset it that same day.

Chief Betty Holland of the Kissimmee Police stated, “During our forensic examination, we uncovered disturbing evidence, graphic images, and videos depicting crimes being committed. It became necessary to act swiftly to remove Stephan Sterns from our streets.”

Tragically, on March 1, Madeline’s remains were found in a wooded area about 40 minutes from her home, where she had been strangled. Authorities have indicated that Sterns disposed of her body rather than taking her to school as he originally claimed.

Sterns faces serious charges, which include two separate trials—one related to multiple counts of sexual battery, molestation, and possession of child pornography, with potential life sentences, and another for Madeline’s murder.

This situation is a stark reminder of the crucial role swift action plays in protecting vulnerable individuals, especially children, from potential harm. As the legal proceedings unfold, there is hope that justice will be served for Madeline and her family, providing them with the closure they deserve.
