The newest addition to the beloved dinosaur franchise is set to be released in theaters in July 2025.
Just six months after Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment confirmed a new installment in the Jurassic World series was in the works, official details have emerged, including the title, early plot information, and two first-look images.
Titled Jurassic World Rebirth, this upcoming film will be directed by Gareth Edwards, known for his work on Godzilla, Monsters, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The script is penned by David Koepp, who contributed to the original Jurassic Park as well as its sequel, The Lost World.
Rebirth boasts a star-studded cast featuring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein. Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg serves as an executive producer, along with Denis L. Stewart and Jim Spencer. Producers include Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley.
The film portrays typical scenes associated with the Jurassic franchise, such as characters lighting flares to distract dinosaurs and others gazing in awe at the sight of a dinosaur from a patch of tall grass.
Set in the universe established by Colin Trevorrow and taking place five years after the events of Dominion, Jurassic World Rebirth explores a world where humans and dinosaurs coexist. The synopsis reveals that remaining dinosaurs now inhabit isolated environments with climates similar to their original habitats, but face ecological challenges. The story reveals that the largest creatures hold the key to a drug that could provide crucial health benefits to humanity.
Scarlett Johansson stars as Zora Bennett, an expert in covert operations leading a team tasked with retrieving genetic material from the biggest dinosaur specimens. The mission takes an unexpected turn when they encounter a civilian family stranded after a boat capsizing incident involving aquatic dinosaurs, leading to a shocking revelation that has been hidden for decades.
Alongside Johansson, Mahershala Ali plays her reliable team leader Kincaid, with Jonathan Bailey as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, Rupert Friend as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado, the head of the shipwrecked family. Other cast members play roles in both the family and Zora’s crew.
Jurassic World Rebirth is the seventh film in the overall Jurassic saga and will make its theatrical debut in July 2025, with the exact date yet to be determined.
