A federal judge has announced the outcome of Julie Chrisley’s resentencing hearing, stating that her prison sentence will not be reduced. On September 25, the judge upheld the reality star’s original sentence stemming from her conviction for fraud and tax evasion.
In 2022, both Julie and her husband Todd Chrisley were found guilty of wire fraud, bank fraud conspiracy, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Todd received a 12-year sentence, while Julie was sentenced to seven years in prison.
This past June, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that the initial sentencing judge had miscalculated Julie Chrisley’s sentence due to a lack of sufficient evidence linking her to the original bank fraud scheme from 2006. Consequently, her sentence was vacated, and a lower court was directed to resentence her.
During the resentencing hearing in Atlanta, Julie Chrisley addressed the court, expressing remorse for her actions and the impact on her family. She stated, “I cannot ever repay my children for what they have had to go through, and for that I am sorry.”
Based on a ruling reported by TODAY.com, the court provided justification for her sentence, reaffirming Julie Chrisley’s sentence of 84 months in prison and five years of supervised release.
Ahead of the hearing, her daughter Savannah Chrisley asked her Instagram followers to keep her mother in their thoughts, expressing hope for her release. Savannah referred to the resentencing as a significant matter and expressed optimism that her mother would be home by Thanksgiving.
Todd and Julie Chrisley have been serving their sentences in separate facilities since January 2023. Recently, on September 8, 2023, the Federal Bureau of Prisons reduced their sentences by two years and 14 months, respectively.
As of September 25, 2024, records indicate that Julie Chrisley is expected to be released on April 22, 2028. Their legal issues began in 2017 when Todd Chrisley was investigated for state income tax evasion, leading to a federal indictment in 2019 on multiple charges. After resolving their tax issues, the couple faced a 12-count federal indictment and were convicted in June 2022.
