Julie Chrisley’s Fate Sealed: What the Judge Decided at Resentencing

A federal judge has made a decision regarding Julie Chrisley’s resentencing hearing. On September 25, the judge decided not to reduce the reality TV star’s prison term related to her fraud and tax evasion case.

Julie and her husband, Todd Chrisley, were convicted in 2022 on charges including wire fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Todd received a 12-year prison sentence, while Julie was sentenced to seven years.

On June 21, 2024, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that the original trial judge had incorrectly calculated Julie Chrisley’s sentence, noting a lack of evidence linking her to the bank fraud scheme that reportedly began in 2006. Consequently, the sentence was vacated, and a lower court was directed to resentence her.

During the hearing in Atlanta, Julie Chrisley was present and took a moment to address the court, expressing remorse for her actions and their impact on her family. She stated, “I apologize for my actions and what led me to where I am today,” and added that she could never repay her children for their suffering.

According to a ruling provided to TODAY.com, the court justified the sentence it imposed on Julie. She was resentenced to 84 months (seven years) in prison, along with five years of supervised release—unchanged from her original sentence.

The day prior to the hearing, Savannah Chrisley appealed to her Instagram followers to keep her mother in their thoughts, asking them to pray for Julie, their family, and the presiding judge. She expressed a desire for her mother to return home to a loving community.

Savannah also discussed her mother’s resentencing on her podcast in July, highlighting the importance of the situation and her hope for Julie’s return by Thanksgiving.

Todd and Julie Chrisley are currently serving their sentences in different facilities after beginning their prison terms in January 2023. On September 8, 2023, the Federal Bureau of Prisons reduced their sentences by two years and 14 months, respectively. According to a Bureau record search, Julie Chrisley is expected to be released on April 22, 2028.

The couple’s legal troubles began in 2017 when Todd was investigated in Georgia for failing to pay state income taxes. In 2019, a federal grand jury in Atlanta indicted them on 12 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. After addressing tax evasion charges and paying $147,944.75, they were convicted on the federal charges in June 2022.
