Ju Ju Lewis Chooses Colorado: What This Means for Buffaloes Football

Top quarterback recruit Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis, who is currently the highest-ranked uncommitted player for the 2025 class, has officially committed to the Colorado Buffaloes football program and coach Deion Sanders. His announcement was made on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday.

Lewis, who previously committed to USC over a year ago, announced his decommitment from the Trojans on Sunday after taking visits to both Georgia and Colorado. The talented athlete from Carrolton, Georgia, also considered Indiana, particularly impressed by the Hoosiers’ strong start this season under first-year coach Curt Cignetti.

Lewis is rated as a four-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite rankings, while ESPN ranks him as the No. 2 overall player and Rivals places him at No. 6. He stands at No. 35 overall and as the sixth quarterback in his class according to 247Sports’ Composite ratings.

Originally a member of the 2026 recruiting class, Lewis reclassified earlier this year and is set to graduate early, skipping a year of high school football. As a sophomore, he delivered an impressive performance, completing 186 of 280 passes for 3,094 yards, recording an outstanding 48 touchdowns against just two interceptions.

With the Buffaloes on the brink of losing their current starting quarterback, Shedeur Sanders—who is projected to be a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft—Lewis is positioned with a strong chance to step into a starting role. Colorado’s offense currently ranks 26th in scoring.

In discussing his commitment, Lewis highlighted the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Shedeur Sanders and the chance for immediate playing time. “Coming in after Shedeur and seeing what he has done at Colorado was significant for me,” Lewis stated. “Coach Prime always says the best men are gonna play, and I wanted to come in and compete for a starting spot right away.”

Here’s a summary of Lewis’s impressive high school statistics, as recorded by MaxPreps:
– 2024: 200 completions on 257 attempts, 2,842 yards, 40 touchdowns, 4 interceptions.
– 2023: 186 completions on 280 attempts, 3,094 yards, 48 touchdowns, 2 interceptions.
– 2022: 283 completions on 432 attempts, 4,118 yards, 48 touchdowns, 12 interceptions.

With Lewis’s commitment, Colorado has now secured its 11th commitment for the 2025 class, lifting their ranking to 78th nationally. Coach Sanders is expected to complement this class through strong recruitment from the transfer portal, as has been typical in his tenure so far.

This commitment is not only a significant boost for Colorado but also symbolizes their ongoing efforts to build a competitive program. With promising young talent like Lewis joining the team, fans can look forward to an exciting future for Buffaloes football.
