Blue-chip quarterback recruit Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis, who is recognized as the top uncommitted player in the 2025 class, announced his commitment to Colorado football and Coach Deion Sanders on Thursday during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
Lewis, hailing from Carrolton, Georgia, had originally committed to USC over a year ago but recently decommitted after visiting both Georgia and Colorado. He also expressed interest in Indiana, particularly given the Hoosiers’ impressive 10-0 start under new head coach Curt Cignetti.
As a highly regarded four-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite rankings, Lewis ranks No. 2 overall per ESPN and No. 6 by Rivals. He holds the position of No. 35 overall player and No. 6 quarterback in the class, according to 247Sports’ ratings.
A noteworthy development in Lewis’ career is his reclassification from the 2026 recruit pool, allowing him to graduate early and forgo an additional year of high school football. Last season, he showcased his skills by completing 186 of 280 passes for an impressive 3,094 yards, along with an astonishing 48 touchdowns to only two interceptions during his sophomore year.
At 6-foot-1, Lewis is poised to contend for the starting position with Colorado next season as they prepare to lose starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who is anticipated to be a top pick in the forthcoming NFL draft. Lewis will be joining a Buffaloes offense that currently ranks 26th in scoring.
In sharing his reasons for choosing Colorado, Lewis emphasized the importance of succeeding Shedeur Sanders and the chance for early playing time. “Of course, it was big for me just coming in after Shedeur and seeing what he has done at Colorado, what he has turned it into,” Lewis explained. He expressed a desire to compete for a starting role rather than being sidelined, appreciating the opportunity Coach Prime offers for competition.
In terms of his recruiting profile, Lewis holds a 247 rating of four stars and ranks as the 35th overall player in the 2025 class, with a 6th positional rating among quarterbacks. He is among the top recruits during Sanders’ time at Colorado, following cornerback Cormani McClain (No. 14 overall) in 2023 and offensive lineman Jordan Seaton (No. 13 overall) in 2024.
Looking at his high school statistics, Lewis has demonstrated impressive performance year after year. In 2024, he recorded 200 completions on 257 attempts for 2,842 yards, contributing 40 touchdowns against four interceptions. His performance in previous seasons is equally notable, with 186 completions for 3,094 yards and 48 touchdowns in 2023, while his 2022 season included 283 completions, 4,118 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Overall, Lewis is the 11th commitment for Colorado’s 2025 recruiting class, which ranked 78th nationally before his announcement. The Buffaloes seem to be laying the groundwork for a strong transfer portal group as they continue to bolster their roster under Sanders’ leadership.
This commitment not only reflects the growing reputation of Colorado football under Coach Sanders but also highlights the exciting potential for the Buffaloes as they aim for success in the coming seasons. The addition of a talented player like Lewis is a promising sign for the team’s future trajectory, aiming to enhance its competitive edge in college football.
