Ju Ju Lewis Chooses Colorado: A Game-Changer for Buffaloes?

Top-tier quarterback recruit Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis, the highest-ranked uncommitted player in the 2025 class, has officially committed to play for Colorado football under the leadership of coach Deion Sanders. The announcement came during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday.

Lewis, who previously was committed to USC for over a year, decided to decommit from the Trojans on Sunday following visits to both Georgia and Colorado. The talented quarterback from Carrollton, Georgia, also expressed interest in Indiana, especially after the Hoosiers started the season with a remarkable 10-0 record under first-year coach Curt Cignetti.

Ranked as a four-star recruit by 247Sports’ Composite rankings, Lewis holds impressive positions in other organizations, being ranked the No. 2 overall player by ESPN and No. 6 by Rivals. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 35 overall player and the No. 6 quarterback in the 2025 class.

Originally projected as a 2026 recruit, Lewis reclassified in January, opting to graduate early and forgo an additional year of high school football. Last season, he delivered an outstanding performance, successfully completing 186 of 280 passes for 3,094 yards with an incredible 48 touchdowns against just two interceptions.

At 6 feet 1 inch tall, Lewis is poised to compete for a starting position with the Buffaloes next season, as the team expects to lose its second-year starter, Shedeur Sanders, who is favored to be among the top quarterbacks selected in the upcoming NFL draft. Lewis will have the chance to contribute to an offense that ranks 26th in scoring this season.

In his commitment announcement, Lewis shared his motivations. He appreciates the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Shedeur Sanders and is eager to compete for a starting position early in his career. “Coach Prime always says the best men are gonna play, and that was really important for me—to come in and compete and start as a freshman,” Lewis stated during the show.

As a four-star recruit ranked No. 35 overall in the 2025 recruiting class by 247Sports, Lewis is expected to be a significant addition to the Buffaloes’ roster, marking him as their third-highest rated recruit during Sanders’ tenure at Colorado.

Lewis’ impressive high school statistics include:

– 2024: 200 completions on 257 attempts for 2,842 yards, 40 touchdowns to 4 interceptions
– 2023: 186 completions on 280 attempts for 3,094 yards, 48 touchdowns to 2 interceptions
– 2022: 283 completions on 432 attempts for 4,118 yards, 48 touchdowns to 12 interceptions

With Lewis’s commitment, Colorado is now working towards building its 2025 recruiting class, which previously ranked 78th nationally prior to his announcement. The Buffaloes are likely preparing for an influx of talent through the transfer portal, continuing the momentum from Sanders’ first two seasons.

This commitment is a promising development not just for Colorado but also for Lewis, who will have the opportunity to develop his skills on a prominent stage and potentially lead the Buffaloes to future successes. As he embarks on this journey, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how his talent will manifest in the collegiate arena.
